Cenote Azul, translated to ‘Blue Cenote’, is appropriately named as you will encounter various shades of turquoise and crystalline blues walking past the little ponds of crystal clear water at this location.

Further at the end you will come to a rather beautiful swimming area where you can jump off of a platform.
Main swimming area of Cenote Azul
I would recommend coming here as early as 7 or 8am if you plan on escaping the crowds, on a weekday preferably. It seems to be popular with family and kids, especially where the main swimming area is. However, you can still have a personal experience if you get there early enough.
Witness the first of the morning light as it filters through the trees and lights up these mystical turquoise pools. You will marvel at how these little hidden patches of water sparkle and glimmer. The little ones feel secluded as they are tucked away amidst the trees. Those were my favorite.

This pool was small but deep enough to take a full dip.
Enjoying my beautiful surroundings. Can you spot the snorkeling dude in the back?
There is something truly unique about this location. I think it is because of the abundance of flat, light colored boulders that light up directly beneath the surface of the water. The blues are accentuated, hence the name, Cenote Azul.

As with all cenotes, be sure to wash off all sunscreen and body products before entering the water in order to protect the delicate beauty of this place. I would also recommend water shoes. I bought these simple ones off of amazon and packed them before coming down to Tulum. It feels a lot more sanitary having these on when you’re walking around on wet paths that get a lot of foot traffic. They are also very lightweight – so great to travel with!
These water shoes are a big must when exploring this cenote.
Behold, the beauty is yours to enjoy 🙂

I had so much fun walking around and taking all of these pictures! This place is so photogenic. Cenote Azul is highly recommended on my list of cenotes to visit.
